College Board
John Tonkin College is an Independent Public School. The College has established a Board that assists in the governance of John Tonkin College. The College Board consists of business, industry and community representatives as well as parent and staff representatives.
Role of the Board
The Board’s major objective is to ensure that the John Tonkin College is regarded as a College of excellence and that the college’s mission, vision and values are upheld.
The Board meets monthly and is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of College policy. The Board works within the Department of Education relevant legislation and regulation but does not have responsibility for the day to day running of the College. This is under the direction of the Principal.
The Board has a major role in creating interest in the college across the community; in forming strategic partnership; gaining sponsorship and in ensuring that the performance of the school in all areas is at the highest level. The Board contributes to the College’s Business Plan and to the School Delivery and Performance agreement.
Board Representation is made on the Finance committee of the College and on the P&C committee. Membership to the Board is for a two year initial term.

Code of Conduct
Our College operates under the values of Respect, Excellence and Commitment and students are expected to conduct themselves according to these values. A Code of Conduct exists which describes our culture in terms of the three values within the JTC Positive Behaviour Support Matrix. The values are a regular feature of discussion in assemblies and in classrooms.

Positive Student Behaviour Support Policy
John Tonkin College employs a Positive Behaviour Support approach to guide its management of student behaviour, ensuring a conducive learning environment for all.
Our Positive Student Behaviour Support Policy outlines this approach comprehensively. Rooted in our values of Respect, Excellence, and Commitment, students adhere to these principles as reflected in our Positive Behaviour Support Matrix, visually displayed in every classroom. This evidence-based framework fosters a positive school climate and equips students with the necessary skills for academic and social success. Our staff members are committed to implementing this approach, providing differentiated learning experiences and using proactive strategies such as the PBS Acknowledgement system.
We recognise the importance of community engagement in cultivating a supportive environment both within and outside school premises. Through a collaborative effort involving school, home, and community, we aim to nurture responsible behaviour and ensure the holistic development of our students.
